Pensacola Novels

We’ve all read novels that took place in major cities with descriptions of local places. I recall reading a James Bond novel years ago and being stunned when there was mention of a Shell gas station near Gulf Breeze. Below are two novels about Pensacola that take place in and around its bays and beaches. There you will find memories from Pensacola High School and East Bay along with beach buggy rides along the Gulf beaches. Even the Sugar Bowl sand dune plays a role.

The first book, A Measure of the Earth, takes place in East Hill and along Bayou Texar. It is based on the stories from the 1950s about a ghoul that was desecrating the local cemeteries and two boys who ran afoul of the family that was grave robbing.

Another book about the 1950s Pensacola area is A Season of Tides. It follows the lives of three teens, two poor and one well-to-do, through their lives on the water earning a living crabbing to their post-Vietnam lives running an oil tanker business that eventually makes all of them wealthy beyond anything they ever hoped or dreamed for. Yet their wealth was never able to protect them from the disastrous events that had dogged them from the first murders leading out of their early lives.

Having covered novels that take place in and around Pensacola, there is also a rather lengthy science fiction trilogy from the same Pensacola author. That book, Pulses, follows the efforts of a team of Air Force security experts who discover an alien sentinel stationed far out beyond the Moon. The sentinel had been waiting patiently for 30,000 years for someone to break its simple contact code. Once broken, though, things don’t work out so well for Earth. Well, no point giving away the real reason the sentinel had been waiting so long or what its real mission was. Pulses is also available for Kindle at $.99 here:
